Yesterday's high and low, and round numbers
The simplest levels on any chart, and why so many traders watch them.
Some levels need no maths at all. Yesterday's high, yesterday's low, this week's range and round numbers like $4,100 are watched by traders everywhere, so they often matter.
Yesterday's range
Yesterday's high and low mark where buyers and sellers ran out of steam. When gold moves past one, it shows the day has more energy than yesterday. Many traders place orders just beyond them, which can speed the move up.
Round numbers
People like round numbers. Orders cluster at $4,000, $4,050 and $4,100, so the price often pauses there or moves quickly once it gets through.
Alerts on this site
The site checks gold every minute and posts an alert when it crosses one of these levels, once a day for each level. A crossing is information, not a signal: prices often turn back soon after.
